Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has told government functionaries, traditional rulers, security agencies and citizens of the State to treat matters affecting members  of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) as a top priority.

He gave the order on Friday, at the NYSC permanent orientation camp, in  Nonwa-Gbam Tai, in Tai Local Government Area of the state during the swearing in ceremony of corps members of 2023 Batch A Stream 1 deployed to Rivers State.

Wike, who was represented by George Nwaeke, Permanent Secretary, Special Services Bureau, Office of the Secretary to the State Government, Rivers State, described corps members as the most enlightened, virile and vibrant members of society placed at vantage position to make Nigeria work well for all citizens.

He assured of his administration’s continued commitment to improve on the physical infrastructure needs of the scheme, as well as support to its programmes and activities aimed at advancing the cause of the scheme.

In a welcome address, Rivers State NYSC Coordinator, George Mfongang, commended the corps members for their discipline and understanding of the objectives of the scheme.

He urged them to take full advantage of the orientation exercise to harness their innate potentials and unique abilities to make positive impacts on the lives of  Nigerians.

Mr. Mfongang further charged the corps members to take seriously all camp programmes and activities, especially the security and language lectures, as well as the skills acquisition training programme.

The Oath of Allegiance was administered by Chief Judge of the State represented by Justice Crescent Kiri Dapaa-Addo.

A total of 1,615 corps members were sworn in during the event; the first ceremonial function in camp after the outbreak of COVID-19 in 2020.
