A woman, whose name was given as Bridget, was murdered in Kano for alleged act of blasphemy, yesterday.    The murder, which happened at about 5.00pm, took place at Kofar Wambai market in the state capital.
A witness said the deceased was involved in an argument with another person within the market and, in the cause of the argument, she allegedly made the remark.
Daily Sun gathered that Bridget’s corpse has been deposited at the Murtala Mohamed Specialist Hospital in the state. Security sources told Daily Sun that, already, two suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident,while normalcy has returned to the area.
Sources said police in Kano have deployed extra policemen to the market area.
The state’s Police Commissioner, Alhaji Maigari Dikko, did not pick his calls but, it was gathered that the entire security apparatus of the state, including the Directorate of State Service (DSS) are on alert to manage any possible outcome of the unfortunate incident.
Kano State Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Bishop Ransom Bello, confirmed Bridget’s death and expressed deep sadness over the reported nature of her death.
“I have just been notified of the very sad development,” he said.
He also added that an emergency meeting of the Christian body will hold today to determine the next line of action.
News of the tragic death resulted in a state of fear and panic among non- indigenes in the state.
