The Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested one Mwuese, from Kardorako, Keana Local Government Area of the state, for allegedly killing her three-day-old baby.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Idrisu Kennedy, told our correspondent yesterday in Lafia that the police, on Monday, received a report of the corpse of a baby found in Kaderko.
Policemen swung into action and arrested the culprit, who turned out to be the mother of the deceased child, on Tuesday.
The PPRO said the lady had confessed to committing the crime, but did not give any reason for killing the baby. He added that, as soon as the police finish investigations, the woman would be charged to court.
“Based on the report from preliminary investigation, the women is sane and has admitted to committing the crime,” he said.
Kennedy advised parents and couples to monitor pregnant women and girls in order to avert a recurrence of such ugly acts.
The husband of woman and father of the deceased, Fanen, said what his wife did beat his imagination.
He explained that they had been married for 15 years, have two children and the deceased baby was their third child.
The traditional ruler of the area, Fabian Orugu, Oso Kadoko of Kaderko, described the woman’s action as devilish.
He commended the efforts of residents of the area and the police for the collaboration that led to the arrest of the suspect.
He said the traditional council would monitor the case to make sure that the law took its course, in order to serve as deterrent to others.
