Civil Society Organisation, Youngstar Development Initiative (YDI), has attributed lack of self esteem among women to the reason why most of them do not deploy their potential to enable them rise above their male counterparts.

Executive Director of YDI,  Kingsley Bangwell, while addressing journalists yesterday, in Abuja, to mark the 2019 International Women’s Day entitled, ‘ Balance for Better,’ explained that the problem is caused by roles given to boys and girls which make the girls feel like they are inferior to boys.
Bangwell suggested that the education for women should not be taken for granted, stressing that with quality education and empowerment women will be able to rise to the pinnacle of their different endeavours.
His words: Report showed that 79 per cent of women do not climb to the pinnacle of the careers which is due to self esteem and how they feel about themselves.
“We live in a world where from childhood women have been made to feel in a certain way due to the roles given to make which suggest that the male is more important than the female. And it transcend to the schools and work places.
“Our aim is to show women that irrespective of some of the challenges they can rise to the top,” he said.
He further maintained that “the girl child education should be expanded because reports show that the highest number of out-of-children are girls. And for us it is a big deal because they are already in a disadvantaged position because they will not get the needed skills required in the 21st century apply for jobs and have a fulfilling career and break out of the poverty circle women have been trapped into.
“30 days Female and More Leadership Program starts as we mark the International Women’s Day. It is an online program where women from over 45 African countries with over 3, 000 of them have signed up. Everyday, they will read one story of a great and inspiring woman and answer five questions how the story inspires them. And at the end of it, they will write what we Goal to Greatness,” he noted.
On her part, Chief Executive Officer of Clean Tech Hub, Ifeoma Malo, noted that female politicians easily get fed up when they fail an election especially for the first time.
Malo urged them to remain resolute rather than run from one political party to the other.
