The National Broadcast Academy (NBA), the training arm of Federal Radio Cooperation of Nigeria (FRCN), has charged broadcast journalists to be professional as it commemorates World Radio Day

Speaking at the event, which held on Thursday, its Director, Ajibola Abiola, charged broadcasters to use media programmes to promote dialogue, peace and unity in the country. He promised that the academy would begin to mark World Radio Day every year to educate citizens on the use of radio programmes for nation-building. “The media must use radio communication skills for national development, not otherwise,” he maintained.

In his speech, Director, Academic Planning, Mr. Yunusa Tanko, represented by his deputy, Mr. Aliyu Ayodele, called on politicians to use radio as a tool for development.

Speaking on the theme, “Radio as a Tool for Dialogue, Peace and Unity”, a guest TV presenter of the programme, Political Stew, with Television Continental, Mr. Suleimon Aledeh, called on broadcast journalists to use their craftsmanship to promote peace wherever they find themselves.

Aledeh, alumni of the academy, advised broadcasters to always use scripts while on air to avoid mistakes. “Professionalism is the watchword and we must see to it,” he stressed.
