A renowned newspaper distributor with The Sun, in Sokoto State, Elder Moses Aremu Oni, was among several Yoruba community members honoured during the 2022 Yoruba community day in Sokoto State.
Elder Oni, who is also a veteran Journalist in the state, was honoured with an outstanding leadership award at the ceremony held at Trade Fair Complex, Sokoto, the State capital.
Similar recognition also goes to an illustrious son of Okun community and General Manager of K&E Construction (Nig) Limited, Sokoto, Mr. Jerry Ibitomihi who was bestowed with an outstanding leadership award at the event.
Ibitomihi who was represented by Chief Moses Ajibola described the award as a worthy recognition and promised to continue contributing his quota to the community’s development and members’ wellbeing.
The President-General of Yoruba community in Sokoto State, Chief James Olorunfemi, commended the state governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal for providing an enabling environment for non-indigenes, especially Yoruba origins living in the state.
He assured the state government and the host community in general of continuing support and cooperation of Yoruba origins living in the state.
Olorunfemi however called on all residents of the state, especially the non-indigenes to play their role in the forthcoming 2023 general elections by voting for the candidates of their choice.
Chairman of the occasion, Hon. Bashir Hassan Agbana, appealed to members of the community to continue living in peace and harmony with their host.
Agbana, who announced a donation of the sum of five hundred thousand naira for the building project called on all sundry to join hands in making the construction of the Yoruba House a reality.
Also speaking, the Chief Launcher, Trustee Olufemi Roberts made a cash donation of one hundred thousand naira only.
The ceremony was witnessed with cultural troupe dance from different communities aimed at promoting the heritage of Yoruba culture to the outside world.
