Delta State command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) on Saturday embarked on Operation Zero Tolerance Public Enlightenment rally in Asaba during which the newly opened Koka bridge and interchange along the Benin-Asaba-Onitsha highway was cleared of illegal traders.

Sector Commander of the corps in the state, Udeme Bassey Eshiet said the rally was in compliance to the directive of the Corps Marshal, adding that it marked a glorious end to 2022.

Eshiet thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for approving the temporary opening of the Second Niger Bridge since December 15, 2022.

He highlighted the gains of opening the new bridge during the yuletide, saying that travelers from the west to the east no longer spend long hours as was the case when they were using the old Niger Bridge.

“This has extremely made the journey of Nigerians seamless,” Eshiet said.

The sector commander then reminded the road users to continue to be obedient to all government road traffic managers.

He said the second phase on the use of the Second Niger Bridge will commence from January 2 to 15, 2023.

“The use of the Second Niger Bridge as directed by the Minister of Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN), which host a one way traffic for light vehicles only, will be from the east to the west making use of the Obosi interchange,” he explained.

Eshiet stressed the need for motorists to enhance the degree of obedience during “this return leg from January 2, 2023.”

Motorists at the motor parks where the rally held, commended the FRSC officials for ensuring free flow of traffic during this year’s festivities, and called for it’s sustenance.
