Christmas was interesting; I usually prefer to have a quiet day on such days. It’s not a day I like to go out naturally but the girls will not hear of it. Zara decided to host us in a swanky downtown club; she said it was also a befitting way to end the year since we were going for my Dad’s birthday in Delta state and won’t be back till after the New Year. As you know, the build up to my father’s birthday was hectic but I managed to get things in place.

The girls insisted we do a road trip, which surprisingly was fun. Usually anything above 30 minutes on the road gives me the jitters. The party was a carnival, with Daddy Showkey and Patapaa who did his ‘one corner’ hit song amongst others. As you might have guessed the Youths from the surrounding villages all ended in my village.

I didn’t want any drama so I did not invite Rick or Dennis, who would I have even said they were? They both want more and for now I am incapable of giving more! Agbarho in Delta State is a beautiful bustling town and I haven’t been here in ages. The Hotels are world class and quite comfortable and I almost didn’t recognise the family House; wow, it is looking really beautiful.

My father is elated to see us all; from the United Kingdom, the States, Ireland, Holland, you name it, it’s certainly a great reunion. My girls opted to stay in a Hotel because according to them or should I say according to Zara how can they wear bum shorts in my family House? “Tobs, I beg I have been keeping the ‘Moet & Chandon Dom Perignon Charles & Diana 1961’ for such an occasion,” Zara said with panache. Kaycee looked confused but was loath to ask, I am sure because of Zara’s caustic tongue. “The Champagne was released in 1961, the year Princess Diana was born. It was also the official champagne at the royal wedding of Princess Diana and Prince Charles.

A limited number of bottles were released to celebrate the occasion and only a few got their hands on such important part of royal history,” I concluded with a smirk staring down Zara. “Bravo Madame avocat,” Zara said mockingly. The girls just laughed and Bola said wonderingly “well well well who would have guessed the story behind the bottle, I didn’t even know that!” On Saturday, we all wore customised t-shirts of my Dads picture and it was beautiful. At night Zara insisted on visiting Warri town; I was concerned because I had heard so many unsavoury stories about the town in regards to lapses in the area of security but Zara wouldn’t hear of it so I was forced to call an old friend to show my girls around town. They came back looking tired but happy; it was obvious my friend had lived up to their expectation and more, if they are happy so am I. After the wonderful Thanksgiving Service and the dedication of the Alter and Prayer place by the pulpit rebuilt by the family and donated on behalf of our father, there was another Reception.

As we stepped out of the Church towards the car, I stopped in my tracks nearly colliding with Jasmine. Leaning negligently against a car was Rick. “Rick is here,” I said in a whisper my heart fluttering at the sight of him. Just at that point, my nephew ran to me, “Aunty a man is waiting for you at home, he says his name is Dennis, and he brought lots of gifts for Grandpa,” he finished in an excited whisper. I was stoned. I did not invite them nor give any of them directions and what is with the gifts Dennis is distributing? I wondered darkly. “OMG, Rick darling, I must say what a pleasant surprise,” Jasmine said elatedly as the girls surrounded him, palpable excitement in the air.

What on earth am I going to do? Rick and Dennis here in Agbarho? Will give you gist of what happened when Rick and Dennis met in my hometown next year (winks, I hope you know that’s next week!) Happy New Year in advance folks, may we have a fruitful year in 2018 by God’s grace. Love you guys.
